Every fact we know as Brit Benjamin Ross missing in Majorca after 'peculiar' email

Benjamin Ross, 26, a trainee barrister, vanished a week ago from Majorca where he was robbed while swimming in the sea, as a search was launched to find him

For more than a week the friends and family of British holidaymaker Benjamin Ross have been asking where he is after he suddenly vanished in Majorca.

The 26-year-old travelled to the Spanish island on holiday to see a friend before deciding to try and make a life for himself there. Ben moved into a rental after finding a local job, but hasn't spoken to mum Felix since July 10 when she says he sent her a "peculiar email” and seemed to be "not in a good place".

As the mystery deepens of where he is, we look at the known facts surrounding his sudden disappearance - and who he is.

Benjamin Ross is a 26-year-old trainee barrister, from Wigan, Greater Manchester. He flew out to Majorca without initially telling his family before extending his stay and finding temporary accommodation. He has not been heard from since last speaking to his mum Felix Robinson on July 10 a week after he arrived on the island. He vanished from Palma, the capital of the popular holiday destination.

What happened before he disappeared?

Benjamin’s exciting trip turned into a nightmare when, on July 6, he is said to have had a bag containing his phone, iPad, wallet and keys robbed at the beach while he was swimming. He went to the police to report the crime but by the time he left it had become late and he got lost.

Once he found his lodgings his housemates refused him entry as it was so late and they were not sure who it was, causing him to have to break in. After the incident he was threatened with eviction and on July 10 police were called but refused to intervene.

In the aftermath one of the flatmates is said to have threatened him with two men to “sort him out”. On the same day he sent a “peculiar email” to his mother, who had been trying to arrange a bank transfer to help her son, which suggested he was "not in a good place".

Who is Benjamin’s mother?

Felix Robinson, 52, is a director of a dog database start-up. She earlier told how she believes the theft and a disagreement with his flatmate in Palma, Majorca, led to Benjamin's mental health to spiral, said to be a repeat of a previous experience from a couple of years ago. She is now being supported by LBT Global, the same charity supporting Jay Slater's family in Tenerife.

Felix told Liverpool Echo : "He seemed to have gotten everything together but a series of unfortunate events have led him to having a breakdown. He started having these issues a couple of years ago and it affected his studies . He was getting ready for his pupillage as he trained to be a barrister but we don't know how it all started. He's a lovely lad, he would do absolutely anything for anyone. He's extremely polite and he would never walk past anyone in need."

What other actions have been taken?

A gofundme has been launched with an initial aim of £5,000 with all monies promised to pay for Felix’s costs including hotels, flights and food in the search for Ben. Anything left over will go to the Andy's Man Club charity.

What has the Foreign Office said?

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
